BBTK-SETCA from Belgium join hands with UNI Global Union in India to organise the commerce sector employees under its Unicome sector.

BBTK has agreed to launch the project from 2009-11 in India, in collaboration with Uni Global and Uni-Apro to organise the un-organised Indian retail sector employees , which has the largest potential. As most of the big multinational retail chains like Metro, Wal-mart and Tesco and few more from around the globe have either started or about to start their stores in India , the time has come to support the employees for ‘Decent Work’ .

And also the Indian retail chains like Future Group, Subhiksha and Reliance retail, which have a huge potential have been made the initial targets.

Activities of Unidoc offices in India to organise the commerce employees also emerged as one of the prime reasons for the forthcoming project.

Existing number of members in Metro Hyderabad and Bangalore provided the base for hope and confidence shown by the Subhiksha employees in Delhi was eminent, as they conducted their first strike with support from Unicome.

Almost 30 employees participated in the strike and 2 stores were shut down. This strike was conducted due to non-payment of salaries for more than 2 months and was also covered by a news channel.
